All Mensa members have one thing in common, what each did to become a member: they all scored in the top 2 percent of the general population on an accepted stardardized intelligence test.

Meaning

The word "Mensa" means "table" in Latin and symbolizes a round table where all members are seated equally, regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, age, politics, education, social or economic background.

Purpose

The purpose of Mensa is to identify and to foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

History

Mensa is the oldest and largest society of its type in the world. It was founded in England in 1947 at Lincoln College in Oxford, England. American Mensa became the second major branch of Mensa.

American Mensa

American Mensa has more than 57,000 members and is the largest national group affiliated with Mensa Internation, Ltd.

Mensa Int'l

There is no other eligibility requirement for Mensa than to pass an accepted intelligence test with a score in the 98 percentile or above.

Existing Test

The scores from about 200 standardized intelligence tests may qualify someone to be a member. If you have taken such a test, and have a qualifying score, the process is relatively simple.

Mensa Test

Mensa has its own admission test with a focus on logic and deductive reasoning that takes about two hours to complete. Local groups typically will administer the Mensa test once or twice a year. Get in touch if you are interested - and we have a practice test.

Culture Fair Test

Mensa does offer an intelligence test for those who cannot speak English, or who have little verbal fluency or education. Individuals taking these tests need only to recognize relationships in figures and shapes.
